Results and Evaluation The Adept Scientific Web Site currently generates around 1000 individual visitors each day, and this is increasing by an average 9% per month. We are currently receiving around 2000 registrations per month and growing. We have just invested in a higher bandwidth connection to cope with the increasing demands on our systems. Our Web Server Statistics database helps us maintain our site effectively, by recording broken links, both internal to our site, and from search engines and other web sites (with this information we have established many productive working relationships with the administrators of other Web sites). The system compares the popularity of each page on our site, giving us valuable data about the relative success of our various products and services. A high proportion of visitors are referred by Search Engines (SEs) and our ranking on these (i.e. how high up the list of "hits" we come when a search is made using a keyword such as the name of one of our products) is a crucial factor. We monitor the SEs continually and take measures such as re-submission to improve our ranking. Our WebStore is also beginning to generate worthwhile business. After six months of trading, direct sales via the WebStore account for some 2% of company revenues. However, this understates the level of sales that the WebStore generates. The WebStore allows users to view prices and print out customised quotations and order forms, useful for the many customers who prefer or need to order through their organisation's official purchasing system. We identified two large orders in recent weeks as being WebStore-generated: in both cases, unusually for larger orders, they arrived without us having had direct contact through one of our technical specialists. We were able to track back and identify the information, including pricing, that these customers had looked at over the Web. |
