Interactive Linear Algebra with Maple V is a complete software package for doing linear algebra. It consists of the printed book, and a CD-ROM (with diskettes available on request). The interactive text includes:
- A Graphical User Interface that makes it easy to navigate among the components of the text, along with animations that explains linear algebra concepts geometrically.
- A collection of interactive lessons with emphasis on experimentation and conjecturing. Each lesson includes a set of exercises and their solutions, and a quiz to check if the student has mastered the main concept of that lesson.
- A collection of labs that enforces the learning of the concepts.
- A collection of applications that stresses modeling and the utility of linear algebra concepts in various disciplines including Computer Science, Population Dynamics, Natural Sciences, Management Sciences, and Engineering.
- A unique library of interactive automated functions written in Maple V that can be used in different modes to enhance the learning of linear algebra concepts and algorithms.
- A stand alone adaptive testing system.
The authors goal has been to implement a philosophy based on the belief that students who study mathematics must enjoy, understand, assimilate, and apply the skills and concepts they study. Students using this text will learn the concepts of linear algebra and their applications in an interactive environment characterized by experimentation, exploration, and discovery learning. Students will play a fundamental and active role rather than a passive one throughout the learning process.
