MapleNet Technical Specifications
The
Client machine must be capable of viewing Web Pages containing Java
Applets.
Requirements
- A machine capable of viewing Web pages with Java applets
- Recommend 128MB memory minimum
- MapleNet Client components require approximately 3MB disk space
- Java-compatible browser, such as Netscape or Internet Explorer
- Java 2 JRE, v1.3.1 or greater, including browser plugin
The
Publisher machine(s) is responsible for creating/editing the content
of the Web pages and, when complete, uploading them to the Server. Note
that the Server and Publisher can be the same machine.

- Recommend 128MB memory minimum
- MapleNet Publisher components require approximately 6MB disk space

- Java 2 SDK, v1.3.1
- Java 2 JRE, v1.3.1, including browser plugin
- Recommend a Java development environment, such as JBuilderTM, VisualAge®,
or VisualCafe™ for developing Java applets
- Recommend a Web page development environment, such as Dreamweaver®
The
MapleNet Server is the machine to which Clients will connect to access
Web pages and the MapleNet applets associated with them. The Server will
also respond to publishing requests from the Publisher machine(s) for
the transfer of content between the Publisher and
the Server.
The MapleNet Server will run as a process and will manage concurrent
Maple instances as required to serve Client connections for math computation
and display services. The Server can also provide some additional services
including User authentication, Logging information, and Database access.

- Recommend 256MB memory
- MapleNet Server components consume approximately 25MB of memory while
running plus 3MB per connection (the connections are of short duration
and are not persistent)
- Installation requires approximately 25MB disk space
