We’ve seen a lot of interest in our discrete event simulation package, Micro Saint, since we featured it in the last issue of Technical Computing Magazine. If you have to make critical decisions about a process and want to assess different potential outcomes, Micro Saint is a real advantage.

But what if you want a customised simulation solution using data from other software sources? That’s where COM Services come into play. Built into the latest release of Micro Saint, COM Services give you the capability to communicate and exchange information with other software applications - dynamically!

Using Visual Basic, Visual C++ or whichever programming language you prefer, you can easily set up data exchange with other applications (for example to pass variables between Micro Saint and a spreadsheet or data analysis program) and communicate between different simulation models. There’s a command line that lets you start, stop and re-start a simulation too, so you can make changes to your model on the fly.
