Serial data

Justin Beecher
Product Specialist

Sometimes the simplest solutions are the best, and that can be the case in data acquisition too. If you’re working in a lab, for example, maybe all you need is to get realtime data from a standard instrument – a balance, a gauge or a pH meter, an analyser or a densitometer, or perhaps just a simple identifier such as a barcode or magnetic stripe reader – into your PC.

Almost all these devices have an RS-232 interface, so in an age when most of us have more USB peripherals than available ports, why not stream in the data through your serial port?

All it takes is a simple piece of software: WinWedge. With this clever utility, you can collect and feed serial data directly into Excel, databases, LIMS systems,MMIs, statistical and SPC software, data analysis or any other Windows application. It’s simple to set up and operate, needs no programming and can send data simultaneously from multiple instruments to different applications or different fields within the same application.

The very latest version, WinWedge Pro 4, sits conveniently in your system tray, and offers the additional capability of sending keystrokes to Citrix Windows and even DOS applications. It also brings compatibility up to date with the latest versions of programs such as Excel.
